LibreOffice — новое имя пакета офисных приложений OpenOffice.org. Разработчики пакета программ OpenOffice объявили о создании независимой организации The Document Foundation, в рамках которого они продолжат разрабатывать свои приложения, но уже под названием LibreOffice. Программы OpenOffice.org — это бесплатный набор программ, сходный по функционалу с пакетом Microsoft Office. Его возможности несколько ниже, поэтому он плохо подходит для решения сложных профессиональных задач, однако на бытовом уровне он легко заменяет программы софтверного гиганта. Позволяет создавать и редактировать все распространённые форматы документов, в том числе, форматы документов MS Office. Также позволяет выгрузить любой документ в формате PDF.
Проект разрабатывался компанией Sun Microsystems, а в этому году, после продажи Sun, оказался в собственности Oracle. Торговая марка OpenOffice.org остается в собственности Oracle, поэтому название пришлось сменить. О поддержке LibreOffice уже заявили Google, Free Software Foundation, Novell и Red Hat, а представители Canonical пообещали включить этот пакет программ в ОС Ubuntu — самый популярный среди домашних пользователей дистрибутив Linux.

Позволяет создавать и редактировать все распространённые форматы документов, в том числе, форматы документов MS Office.
